Was round at Funky T’s for dinner last night and Fendog came in towards the end. He’d been for a run – he’s supposed to be in training for the Jerusalem marathon. I don’t know why anyone would run that far on purpose but he says its really good fun, your legs cramp up and you can’t walk straight for days. Apparently I should try it. Anyway, he said before I left he had something he wanted me to try up in his bedroom. It was an offer I couldn’t refuse. It turned out to be a bottle of clear liquid, he poured me a glass. I thought it must be some kind of liqueur and I took a sniff expecting a stroung smell of fruit or somtehing. They was a weak aroma of something but I couldn’t put my finger on it. I took a sip – at first I just tasted neat vodka, not my favourite. Then WOOOOAH!! A massive kick of chili! Followed by a strangely enjoyable burning in my mouth which lasted a good long time. Being of Oriental Disposition, I’m a big fan of chili but have never tried it in a drink. And like all chili, this stuff is kind of addictive. I had to drive home so only had a drop, but spend the rest of the evening wanting more.
Apparently Fendog’s mates from uni had made the it, and we immediately started discussing making some chili vodka of our own. I’m wondering if we could improve on it a bit. My only problem with it was the harsh vodka taste. Perhaps a better quality vodka may make it more pleasant or maybe something like tequila instead. Or maybe we could flavour the vodka a little? Perhaps spicing up my raspberry vodka? I think a little sweetness would really complement the chili. This has opened a world of new possibilities for us to explore. Watch this space.
