Sunday Lunch at Webmonkey’s

Was invited round for Sunday lunch at Webmonkey’s today and spent a very pleasant afternoon with him and the Thespian who, despite being afflicted with severe vegetarianism, cooks a mean roast dinner. I thought I would use it as an opporutnity to get rid of a bottle of the dubious homebrewed wine collection that is cluttering up my shed, so a grabbed a unmarked bottle of white and shoved it in a gift-bag before I left home. The plan backfired when Webmonkey insisted on opening the bottle at the start of the meal and pouring me the first glass (I was hoping they would just stash it away and let it clutter up their place instead). Thankfully, however, it turned out to be a bottle of my delicious mead. This one seemed a little bit murky but tasted really good – far to sweet to accompany the roast pork, but nice as a dessert wine.

I noticed a couple of full demijohns on Webmonkey’s kitchen floor still with their airlocks in. According to the Thespian they had been sitting there for over two years. Apparently one was marrow wine and one was quince though it was now unclear which was which. They had both cleared beautifully and had impressive sediments looking very much like the surface of an alien planet. Or Gordon Ramsey’s face. If Webmonkey ever gets round to bottling them, I’d be keen for a sample.
